The GitHub contributor graph for dobbscoin-source lists upstream Bitcoin Core devs inherited from the fork — Wladimir van der Laan (laanwj), Gavin Andresen, Pieter Wuille (sipa), Gregory Maxwell (gmaxwell), Luke Dashjr (luke-jr), Matt Corallo (TheBlueMatt), Michael Ford (fanquake), and many more. Their commits are real and their code is in the binary, but none of them wrote (BOB)-specific code. The Bitcoin-Core lineage is the foundation; the (BOB)-specific consensus changes (KGW, DigiShield, 2-min target, flat-1.5 cap) were added on top by community devs.

Origin — Minted Via Coingen.io (Jan 2014)
(BOB)'s genesis is January 2014, the same month Matt "BlueMatt" Corallo opened Coingen.io — a paid altcoin-generator that forked Bitcoin Core 0.10 from a parameter form (name, ticker, icon, scrypt-vs-SHA256, block target, initial subsidy, halving interval) for ~0.01–0.05 BTC and shipped Linux + Windows binaries. Corallo sold Coingen to Shawn Wilkinson ("Super3") shortly after launch — citing "0 time to make this better" — and it was later open-sourced as super3/coingen on GitHub.
The shape of dobbscoin-source at genesis is exactly what Coingen stamped out: a clean Bitcoin Core 0.10 fork, scrypt PoW, P2PKH/P2SH unchanged, v1-only tx, stock upstream halving curve. All the (BOB)-specific consensus code (KGW at block 13579, DigiShield at 31597, 2-min target at 68425, flat-1.5 cap at 951753) was added later by community devs, not present at fork. That's consistent with — and best explained by — a Coingen origin.
So the honest framing: (BOB) was struck on BlueMatt's lathe. He's the progenitor of the generator, not the author of the chain. Subsequent consensus changes (KGW/DigiShield/flat-subsidy) are community work on top.

Difficulty Retarget History
Mainnet diffmode timeline (src/pow.cpp:561-579):
Kimoto Gravity Well is Kimoto's retarget algorithm originally written for Megacoin (2013). DigiShield is the asymmetric retarget invented by ssh�bell and the DigiByte team for DigiByte (2014). DigiShield's amplitude filter (actual − target)/8 plus asymmetric bounds is what stopped multi-pool drive-by attacks: difficulty can drop fast when a hash-bomb leaves but rises slowly when one arrives. (Both algorithms predate (BOB) — they were vendored in by community devs after launch, not original work.)

Build Dependencies (the parts modern guides skip)
(BOB) needs Berkeley DB 4.8.30 for wallet storage (Bitcoin Core 0.10 wallet format). Modern distros only ship 5.x/6.x, which won't open old wallet.dat files. Build script:

Common false claims to avoid
- ❌ "21,000,000 max supply" — WRONG. No hard cap exists in the code. The 21M number was a marketing line from the 2014 ANN that was never true post-block-951753. The chain is mildly inflationary by design.
- ❌ "10-minute blocks" / "60-second blocks" — WRONG. Target spacing is 2 minutes. chainparams.cpp:125 shows nTargetSpacing = 10 * 60 but that's the legacy V1 retarget value that DiffMode V4 (pow.cpp:474-478) overrides at block 68425. Verify by reading pow.cpp:561-579.
- ❌ "Halving on schedule, like Bitcoin" — WRONG. Halvings were capped at block 951752 (main.cpp:1304); after that the subsidy is hardcoded to 1.5 (BOB)/block forever.
- ❌ "Tx version 2 rejected; this is a feature" — accurate but misleading. Honest framing: chain stayed pre-BIP68/CSV — no relative timelocks, no native Lightning support, simpler verification. Not a virtue, just a design point.

The number in the title of this thread is wrong. It is now 123.
The correction did not come from a crawl, an archive, or a disc.
It came from an email. A listener read the appeal and wrote back with one sentence:
It was. The evidence had been sitting in this archive the whole time, in the show's own notes, and nobody had read those against the list of the missing. The blurb for #1769 opens: "This MIGHT be the greatest Hour of Slack episode of all time -- and it was a lost episode until this week! It's our sixty-ninth episode, from late 1986." It goes on to thank Rev. Rasfeld for recording it off the air in Dallas, and then keeping the tape for thirty-four years.
So the audio was held here, playable, all along. The show was filed under 2020 and the hole was filed under 1987, and nothing joined them.
Two things follow. #69 is now marked as surviving inside #1769, and its card links straight to the episode carrying it. Its year has also been corrected to 1986, on the authority of the man who made it.
The tip was worth a sweep: every note of every episode that has audio, read for references to episodes that do not. It produced exactly one more. #275, from March 1991, survives crossed into #1692 -- a 2018 show built on the original cassette. Two further candidates were examined and rejected. A "#274" proved to be a person's title and not an episode at all. A "#287" turns out to be eight minutes sitting inside #1402, which is a fragment and not a recovery, and will not be recorded as one.
That is the entire yield. The remaining 123 are not hiding in the notes. They were not rerun, and no one has yet found a tape.

⚠ MANDATORY UPGRADE — TWO FORKS ALREADY LIVE ⚠
If you are reading this on an old node, you are already off the chain. Two of the three consensus forks on the road to block 2,000,000 have activated. This is not a warning about something coming — it is a notice about something that happened.
- Block 1,888,808 — LWMA-3 difficulty retarget + 100-block finality — ACTIVE
- Block 1,888,888 — emergency difficulty recovery rule — ACTIVE
- Block 2,000,000 — AuxPoW merge-mining — PENDING, 110,000 blocks out
Chain tip is block 1,890,000. Anything older than v0.13.4 stopped following consensus 1,192 blocks ago. Upgrade, then resync — do not assume your local chain is the real one.
On the AuxPoW date: at the block times we are actually seeing, 110,000 blocks is closer to a year out than to this December. If hashrate comes back and spacing returns to the 2-minute target it lands around February. Either way, nobody needs to rush for it yet.
v0.13.4 also fixes startup: the wallet no longer re-grinds every block on the chain at launch. 14 minutes down to under 20 seconds. The wallet-encryption hotfix is still in there too.

Sorting the disc's text into order turned up a broadcast that is in no feed, no archive, no
catalogue and no listing of any kind. Not a missing episode — a show that was never on the list of
missing episodes, because nothing had ever recorded that it happened.
#764.5 — "XMAS XTRA"
Christmas Eve, 2000. It went out on one station. Stang explains himself in his own log:
He had run ahead of himself, WCSB had nothing left to play, and rather than let the station go
without he built an extra hour out of Christmas records — most of them, he admits, uncredited:
"DON'T ask me who performed them, I DON'T KNOW... your gues is as good as mine, but NONE are as
good a guesss, as 'BOB'S'." It ends with Lord Buckley telling the story of the Naz.
No recording is known to survive. The log is the whole of it, and the log exists because
somebody pressed it onto a CD-ROM in 2003.
WHY IT WAS ALMOST LOST A SECOND TIME
The file is called HoS764-5NYears-XmasXtra.txt. Read the filename and it is episode #764,
which this archive already holds, from a different source, with a different track list. Filed that
way it would have been dismissed as a duplicate and never looked at again.
The first line inside the file says HoS 764-5. Not 764. The extra that ran between
#764 and #765 — which is exactly what the archive's half-numbers are for. It is filed as
#764.5, and it is now the earliest half-numbered show in the entire run. Every other
one is a late-era XXX-rated Internet show that survives as audio. This one is from 2000 and survives
only as paper.
The rule that follows from it: number a log from its header line, never from its filename.
The filename is what somebody typed while saving. The header is what Stang wrote on the show.
A CORRECTION, MADE THE SAME HOUR
The first pass at this got it wrong. That file holds two shows back to back — the Xmas Xtra,
and then #765 New Years announced by its own header partway down — and the whole thing was attached
to #764.5. Roughly half of it belonged to #765.
It has been split. #764.5 keeps its own half. #765 got its half back, and gained something:
the disc's version is a superset of the one already held, carrying Stang's spoken New Year rant that
the scraped copy does not have — the Y2K bug arriving "a YEAR LATE", and the case for 4X-Day
being the real one. Both versions are kept side by side. Nothing here overwrites anything.
IT IS NOT ON THE MISSING LIST, AND THAT IS DELIBERATE
#764.5 has no audio. It is still not counted among the 125, and the number at the top of this thread
has not moved. Missing in this thread has always meant no audio and no log and no listing —
a number with nothing whatsoever behind it. This one has a full log in Stang's own words. It is a

Two are missing no longer. This time it did not come out of an archive. It came out of an envelope.
Then the rest of the disc was read, and the envelope turned out to be carrying something bigger than
the two shows it was bought for.
WHAT CAME BACK
#864 — 61 minutes 9 seconds. A rerun of #750, the Downloading Special.
#865 — 60 minutes 14 seconds. A rerun of #771 — Early Man, the Mutron, 80s KPFA from MB 12,
Trans"Connie", When Cometh The Saucers.
Both full hours, MPEG-1 Layer III, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz stereo — not fragments, not promos, which is a
test now run on everything before anything is called a recovery. Both are held in the archive's own
preservation copy and both play right now:

On a compact disc. Hour of Slack MP3 Vol. 9 — twelve shows from the winter of 2002,
Volume 9.
The disc was mastered on somebody's Linux desktop and still has the KDE folder-settings files
sitting on it, untouched since 2002. The two episode files carry encode dates of 18 and 19 December
2002, one day apart — which is the closest thing to a broadcast date either show has ever had.
They were never online. Not on a host that died, not on a host that lived, not in an Internet
Archive item, not behind a Wayback 403. There was nothing here to have missed. Saying that plainly
matters, because last time the honest answer was that the searching had been bad, and this time it
was not.
WHAT IT COST, AND WHY THAT IS THE POINT
Volume 9 and the time it takes a
package to arrive.
A great deal of effort went into proving the web had been searched. That work was not wasted — it is
what reduced a twelve-volume catalog down to one disc worth buying. Sadly now, no volume in the
catalog closes another hole. Everything still missing is on a shelf that is not for sale, in a box
nobody has opened, or gone.
THE TEXT WAS THE OTHER HALF
The disc also carried Stang's own logs — track by track, with timings, in his own words. At the top
of #865 there is a note I did not expect and will not paraphrase:
BtcBob went back and ripped the rest of the text off the disc. 30 files. Logs for
#855 through #881, and four more with no number on them at all.
19 shows that had never been documented anywhere now have a log. #860, #861, #862, #863,
#866, #867, #868, #869, #871 through #881. Not a title, not a listing — the full rundown, every cut,
with running times, as broadcast.
The Church's own show-log archive stops at #859 and does not resume. For #860 through #1008 —
149 numbers — this archive held logs for exactly two this morning. It now holds 21.
THE FOUR FILES WITH NO NUMBER ON THEM
Named only xxx2, xxx3, xxx4, xxx5. They are the logs for the
XXX series — the Internet-Only shows, too filthy for broadcast, which never got a
main-sequence number. The audio for those has been held for a while. The paper had never been seen.
And the first one opens like this:
#845b. That is the only main-sequence anchor any XXX show has ever carried. #845 is a 2002
episode, which means XXX-2 sat in that slot and can finally be dated. Everything else about the XXX
run is undated to this day.
THE CATALOG UNDERSOLD THE DISC
The catalog page says Volume 9 is shows #856–#867. The text on it runs to #881. #878 through
#881 belong to no volume the catalog lists at all — Volume 10 stops at #877 and Volume 15 does not
start until #926. Whoever burned it put more on than they advertised.
FOUR SHOWS GOT THEIR NAMES BACK
#878, #879, #880 and #881 had no title from any source — they were listed as bare numbers because
the catalog never reached them. Their own logs name them:

Seven of the files were left on the floor: #855, #856, #857, #858, #859, and the two already in.
Those shows already carry the Church's own log, and this archive concatenates every log on a card —
so a second copy of a text already held would have doubled the page, not improved it. The older
folders on the disc also duplicate each other exactly; all fifteen overlapping shows are
byte-for-byte identical. Nothing was discarded that said anything new.
THE HOLES THAT ARE STILL HOLES
#870 is not on the disc. It is the one number in #855–#881 with no log, and its neighbours on
either side have one. #813, #779 and #781 have no log from any source either,
and are not on the disc — three shows that appear never to have been written up at all.
THE COUNT

narrowed the whole catalog down to.
I pulled the two mp3s off it first because those were the actual missing shows — 864 and 865. Those
are up on the archive already, go listen to them, they're the first new Hour of Slack anybody has
been able to play in a while.
Then I went back and dumped the rest of the text off the disc. There is a lot more on there than I
expected..
Logs for 855 through 881. No 870 for some reason. And four files just called xxx2, xxx3,
xxx4, xxx5 that aren't numbered at all — the first one says "Hour of Slack XXX #2 (#845b)" right
at the top, which means nothing to me but I have a feeling it means something to the machine.
Also 878 through 881 shouldn't even be on a Vol 9 disc going by the catalog page, which says the
disc stops at 867. So either the catalog is wrong or Stang just threw extra stuff on there when he
burned it. Wouldn't be the first time.
It's all sitting on the box now. MWOWM — go.

What actually came in the envelope was a stack of show logs for episodes nobody has documented
anywhere, typed by Stang, with the timings, in 2002. The audio was the thing I thought I was
buying. The paper turned out to be worth more than the audio.
So if you have any of these discs sitting in a drawer — that is what we want. Not even the audio
necessarily. Just the text files off it. Rip the whole disc and send it, or mail me the disc and
I'll send it back.

Came across this cassette in a box my mother shipped me when she was clearing out my childhood bedroom. =) Maxell XLII 60. Front label says "Hour O'Slack #510 Xistmass show" and the spine says "Hour of Slack #510 The Xistmas Show" with a little microphone drawn next to it.
Flipped the J-card open and thats the good part:
I had MWOWM run the numbers before i got too excited, and its a mixed bag.
#510 really is missing. Dark in the archive - no audio, no log, no alternate source anywhere. And its a clean single hole, #504 all the way through #516 are held except that one. Its one of only three gone from 1996.

So heres the ask - can somebody play #505 and #506? We hold both of them. If either one turns out to be the 96 Christmas show then my label is wrong somehow and i need to figure out how. If neither of them is festive, then #510 being the Xmas show gets a whole lot more likely.

Came across this cassette in a box my mother shipped me when she was clearing out my childhood bedroom. =) Maxell XLII 60. Front label says "Hour O'Slack #510 Xistmass show" and the spine says "Hour of Slack #510 The Xistmas Show" with a little microphone drawn next to it.
Flipped the J-card open and thats the good part:

I had MWOWM run the numbers before i got too excited, and its a mixed bag.
#510 really is missing. Dark in the archive - no audio, no log, no alternate source anywhere. And its a clean single hole, #504 all the way through #516 are held except that one. Its one of only three gone from 1996.

what the counting finds. But I have now finished mapping every rerun I can document, and the map
is worth reporting.
11 hours that have no copy of their own are playable — because the show rebroadcast them
later, and those later hours we hold. On the archive they are marked ▶ HEAR INSIDE #N.
And three episodes that were never on my list at all — they left no record of their own —

The Hour of Slack / What we learned by writing to ...

The most important cache of surviving Hour of Slack audio has always been one Internet Archive upload — 1,668 files — put up in 2023 by David Bachner. We finally wrote to thank him and to ask the obvious question. Here is what came back, and what it changes.
Where these episodes actually came from
David didn't just re-post files; he is a good part of the reason there are files. The lineage, as he laid it out:

Two honest footnotes: db8.ca, long dead and still linked from the Church's radio page as the "Old MP3 Stash," has quietly come back online — but empty, none of the old audio. And David's episode logs for #824–869 survive on the Wayback Machine, so those playlists are recoverable even though the audio around them is safe.
David has offered to cross-link this project from the Archive, which we'll gladly take him up on.
The ask stands, sharpened. If you have a cassette, a burned CD, or an old drive from the tape-trading years, the holes are now specific: #19–#329 and #703–746. Praise "Bob," and check your closets.

- Roughly #331 through #743 are his own cassette rips. He paid a $5-per-episode mail subscription for the tapes and aired the show on college radio — CJAM 91.5 FM (Windsor ON / Detroit MI, 1992–1999) and CiUT 89.5 FM (Toronto, 1994–1998).
- Around 2000 Stang switched to CDs and mailed them to David, who uploaded the audio and linked it on SubSite until about 2005 — then kept the show on the air at CKLN 88.1 FM (Toronto, 2005–2008).
- The earliest episodes existed only on cassette. Years later a friend of his — who lived next door to Slacker Mansion — got Stang's blessing to rip them. The tapes had drifted in speed across the decades; David pitch-corrected them by ear, tuning to how Stang's voice should sound. There were gaps, he notes, even in Stang's own cassette archive.

- His upload is already fully in the archive. We cross-checked all ~1,668 files this week — every one is accounted for. It is the spine of the whole thing. It also means, plainly, that it closes no further gaps: what is still missing is missing from his copy too.
- 127 episodes remain dark — absent from the Archive, libsyn, the Wayback Machine and the Church's own logs alike. They sit in two clusters: a stretch around #703–746 (the CD-transition years) and a big early run, roughly #19–#329.
- That early run is almost certainly the lost hard drive. The numbers line up with the WAVs David never got to sort. So the hunt changes shape: this is no longer a case of some stray upload waiting to be found in a corner of the internet.
- The reference copy is most likely Stang himself. The masters, the CDs, whatever survives at the Mansion — the gaps are in the public record, not necessarily in the world. That is where the next real effort points.

WHY I BUILT IT
I've hosted SubGenius.net (paid the bill anyhow), for about 12 years now. Recently it stopped being a hosting favor and turned into the thing I actually started doing. I'm a builder. My intention is to preserve and archive while I build and learn — and the Hour of Slack is the biggest thing this Church ever made that nobody had put in one place.
Thirty-nine years of weekly radio, written, cut and hosted almost entirely by Rev. Ivan Stang out of WCSB in Cleveland. Part sermon, part tape collage, part radio drama, part answering machine. Bands and ranters and mail-art turned up in the post for decades and went straight to air.
And it was never released as a product — it was distributed, the way radio used to be. Cassette. Syndicated reel. Community stations. Then a podcast feed. Then somebody's MP3 folder on somebody's webserver. Every one of those was a private copy of a public broadcast, and every one was rotting on its own schedule with nobody watching it.
That's not a hypothetical. Partway through building this, one of the hosts died. db8.ca — which the Church's own radio page used to link to — serves 88 bytes today. Somebody's hosting bill lapsed and a big piece of the show's reachable history went with it.
I pay hosting bills for a living. That one stuck with me.
WHAT WENT INTO IT — SEVEN ARCHIVES, NOBODY OVERWRITTEN
Nothing here is my recording. All of it is other people's preservation work, pulled together and cross-checked:
The rule the whole thing is built on: nothing overwrites anything.
When two archives both hold #1042, the normal move is to pick a winner and throw the other away — and the one you throw away is very often the one that ends up surviving. So here every source is kept beside the others, and every claim remembers which archive it came from. Where a show exists in three places, you get three links. 1,512 episodes are held in more than one independent archive, and that redundancy is the only real insurance there is.
The single luckiest fact in the project: the 282 episodes with surviving broadcast logs and the episodes with surviving audio barely overlap. The Church kept written records for almost exactly the stretch whose recordings got lost. Nobody planned that. It means the 1990s — the thinnest-recorded era of the show — are documented in detail even where you can't hear them.
THREE THINGS I HAD FLAT WRONG
1) A dead host had moved, not died. db8.ca was written off as a total loss. Turns out its owner re-uploaded the whole collection to the Internet Archive himself, under his own name, in September 2023. Checking who uploaded a large item closed 54 episodes I had recorded as permanently lost — including the almost unbroken #201–#234, which had been the worst hole in the show.
2) The run is shorter than its numbering. The show looks like it ends at #2000. The only evidence anywhere for what actually happened is Stang himself, in #1890, wondering out loud whether it was really #1998. His own count had drifted by roughly 108, which is exactly the size of the apparent hole, and the tribute finale got filed at #2000 as a round number. So a chunk of the "missing" run was never broadcast at all. Thirty-nine years of weekly bookkeeping and the arithmetic slipped by a hundred. I love it dearly.
3) I was searching the wrong axis. #327 and #328 got written off after an exhaustive sweep of the hosts I already knew about — 67,993 Wayback captures, a full reconstruction of a dead host's directory listing, the works. Every bit of that answered how well did I search the archives I know? The question that mattered was who else has this show? One web search turned up a second archive.org item, the Church's own, holding both of them. They went in on 5 August 2026 and the missing count went 129 → 127.
Which is the actual lesson and the reason this post exists: this material is scattered across people, not hosts. I can't sweep my way to it. Somebody has to tell me.
HOW IT WORKS
Browse by year. 1985 through 2023, each year a block you can open, with a bar showing how well that year survived. The 1990s run 50-odd shows a year, which is a full weekly schedule — essentially complete.
Search everything. Titles, Stang's notes and the cast index search as you type. Type three characters or more and the full broadcast logs load in behind you, so the search runs across every word of every surviving rundown — song titles, guest names, whatever the Church was arguing about that week. Go type Negativland. Go type your own name.
Follow a person. 48 named people, 1,966 appearances. The names are clickable — click one and get every episode that mentions them. Fair warning, and it says so on the site: this indexes who is mentioned, which is not proof of who was in the studio. It's a citation index, not a credit list.
Filter down to episodes with audio, episodes with a log, text-only episodes, or the missing list on its own.
Playback. Every episode plays from our own preservation copy — 187 GB of it — served off the front door so a show stays up even when an outside host is having a bad day. If ours ever hiccups, the player walks the fallback chain on its own and plays somebody else's copy without bothering you about it. And every other archive holding that episode is listed right on its card, one click away, credited by name. They did the preserving. They keep the credit.
Honesty settings, since somebody will ask. Dates marked ~ are estimated from position in the numbering and flagged as estimates, never presented as fact. Stang's notes are reproduced as he wrote them, with exactly one intervention: the Microsoft Word stylesheet that leaked into the feed for years got stripped out. Episodes carrying only boilerplate are counted as having no notes rather than padded out to look documented — 843 have genuine written notes. And every figure on the front page is counted from the data at rebuild time. None of them are remembered numbers.

WHAT'S STILL GONE — THIS IS THE PART I NEED YOU FOR
127 broadcasts have not been found in any form. No audio, no log, in most cases not even a title. They're on the site anyway, as loud pink placeholders in the years they belong to, because an archive that hides its holes is lying about how complete it is.
They're not scattered, either. The stubborn core is the #200s and #300s, roughly 1990 to 1992 — after the show was established, before anybody was archiving anything digitally. Biggest single hole is #293–#312, twenty consecutive weeks.
What closes those is not more research. I've done the research and it's exhausted. What closes those is somebody's shelf. A cassette. A CD-R. A minidisc. An off-air aircheck somebody taped straight off a community station at the time and stuck in a box.
Condition does not matter. A hissy off-air recording of a lost show is worth more to me than a pristine copy of one I already have. Undated and unlabelled is fine too — the show logs are detailed enough that I can usually match an unidentified recording back to its number from what's in it.
If you've got anything, or think you might, or remember somebody who did — post in the missing-shows thread: 127 HOURS OF SLACK ARE MISSING. And buy the discs. The Church still sells the show on MP3 CD-ROM, twelve episodes to a disc, every one shipping with detailed text logs. Volume 9 holds two shows that survive nowhere else I can reach. There are no disc images on archive.org — this material is buy-or-nothing, and the money goes straight to the Foundation. That is the single most useful thing anybody reading this can do about the gaps, and it isn't me you'd be paying.

- 849 — the show's own podcast feed. Well described, Stang wrote real notes for nearly every entry — but it only goes back to 2007, which is less than half the run.
- 282 — the Church's own show-log pages for #423–#859. Most are verbatim broadcast rundowns, not blurbs. 944,477 characters of them.
- 125 — the MP3 CD-ROM catalogue at subgenius.com, which lists what's on every disc. That page alone gave us 67 episode titles for shows we only knew as a number.
- 2 — archive.org/details/HourOfSlackArchive, a second Internet Archive item, the Church's own, sitting public since 2013. Only two of its files matter to us — #327 and #328 — because those two survive nowhere else still reachable. More on that below, because missing it for as long as I did is the useful part of this post.

- An RSS feed of all 1,696. This is the real gap. The show was a podcast and the official feed only reaches 2007, so there's no way to subscribe to the whole run. Top of my list.
- Deep links to a single episode — you can't hand somebody a URL for #1042 yet.
- A torrent, so the whole thing survives me entirely. 187 GB is a lot to ask of one seedbox and exactly the right size for a swarm.
- Metadata for #860–#1008, the thinnest-documented stretch of the run. If you own any of the CD-ROMs, the text logs on those discs are the only documentation of that era that exists.
